Hi, Im Hannah…

I love creating outdoor spaces that feel special, magical, comfortable and unique to each person and place. A Garden is a living, ever-evolving space - each one with its own personality and story. A professionally designed garden can express your and your home's own style, it can increase home values, and most importantly, a garden can create beautiful, enjoyable, comfortable, healthy outdoor living spaces.

I am a native of Chiltonville, a rural village in Plymouth, MA. My mother was a gardener and my father a fisherman and artist. My childhood adventures took me from playing in the woods and ponds around my home to many far away places and cultures, spending time abroad in the Caribbean, Central America and Italy, but always returning home to our family property in Chiltonville. My life is, and has always been, deeply connected to the natural environment.

I began my education in design studying Architecture at Northeastern University. During my college career in Boston, I began working in local garden centers and as a gardener in and around Greater Boston. I decided to merge my love of gardening and design and pursue a Master’s Degree in Landscape Design at the Conway School of Landscape Design in Western MA.

I returned to Boston to start my career as a Designer and Project Manager for the Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston. My 13 years there provided me with profoundly important mentors and experience in my field.

When I was ready to start my family I returned to Plymouth to be near my own family and our homestead in Chiltonville. For the past 7 years I’ve been working in residential landscape and garden design with JuliaGarden Design of Osterville, MA. There, I specialized in fine garden designs with a passion for native plants, diversity and ecological gardening practices.

With over 25 years’ experience in the world of gardens, design, space planning, graphic design and project management behind me I founded Summersweet Garden Design. All of my designs are custom to each client and each space.

I enjoy being at home in my own gardens, spending time with my two sons, surrounded by our many animals: dogs, cats, love birds, chickens and goats. I love hosting friends & family on the property so all can enjoy summer nights on the pond, fireside, with lots of love and laughter beneath the flickering stars and fireflies.

A well designed and thoughtful garden can give any space beauty, structure, personality, presence, and add a sense of magic, wonder and whimsy. I look forward to helping my clients create their own sense of place in their gardens and their home.
